In September, Clockworx seized an exciting opportunity by making its debut at EMO Hannover 2023. Over the course of the six-day event, we had the pleasure of meeting remarkable people and intriguing questions. Among them: How can companies supercharge their productivity? What's the secret to quick access to vital information for decision-makers? And, perhaps the most exhilarating query of all, where do you even kickstart your journey when exploring new solutions?
Our team had an exhilarating experience immersing ourselves in the future of manufacturing. We were honoured to glean insights from industry leaders in search of solutions, as well as from the innovative companies that showcased them. In this article, we'll share five enlightening lessons we gleaned from this year's event.
Lesson 1: The manufacturing industry has investment potential, but economic concerns are causing hesitation
The manufacturing industry is sitting on a potential goldmine, with many companies having a surplus of cash and solid business cases for investments. However, there's a noticeable hesitation. Economic uncertainties make industry leaders and decision-makers worried about the future, causing them to hold back from investing. This cautious approach is particularly evident in the latest McKinsey Global Survey, where European companies appear less optimistic about the future.
Understanding this delicate balance between potential and caution is crucial for navigating the industry's current landscape.
Lesson 2: The rise of markets in Saudi Arabia, China, and India is a new opportunity for growth
Global dynamics are evolving, with Saudi Arabia, China, and India emerging as powerful players seeking fresh ideas and partnerships. This shift underscores the importance of expanding your horizons beyond traditional markets.
While Europe and the US continue to be significant, exploring opportunities in these rising markets can be a game-changer for your business strategy.
Lesson 3: We've witnessed firsthand how interconnected the world is
At EMO, we got a firsthand look at how supply chains are basically throwing up a "no borders" sign. It's a small world after all, right? The manufacturing game is getting seriously interconnected, with supply chains stretching out across the globe. And guess what, when we looked at the top visitor countries at EMO, we found that Turkey, China, the Netherlands, Italy, and Poland took the cake.
And hold on to your hats, about a third of all the trade visitors came trotting in from Asia. Now, that's what we call global networking.
This global connectivity creates opportunities for collaboration and innovation but also presents challenges, such as managing complex logistics and ensuring quality control.
Lesson 4: The manufacturing world is still disconnected but wants changes
The manufacturing industry faces a widespread issue of disconnected applications. Many manufacturers use a variety of different software applications to manage different aspects of their operations, such as production, logistics, and quality control. However, these applications often remain disconnected, creating silos of data that are difficult to manage and analyze.
This is where we believe orchestration plays a pivotal role. But let's be real, there's a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to how people feel about it. On one hand, there's a longing for that one-stop-shop system with all the real-time info you could ever want. But on the flip side, there's a fear of change that looms large.
Lesson 5: Manufacturers desire robotics but are uncertain about integration in production and logistics
Now, let's talk about a fascination we witnessed - the desire for robotics in manufacturing. Manufacturers dream of harnessing robotics' transformative power, from boosting efficiency to cutting costs and enhancing quality. Yet, integrating robotics remains a puzzle for many.
At EMO Hannover, we saw captivating demonstrations of robotics in manufacturing, showcasing their potential benefits. But the narrative didn't end there; the focus also honed in on the challenges of integration, from managing the logistics of robotics to ensuring safety.
Conclusion: EMO Hannover as a catalyst for innovation and growth
